Pub team celebrate latest title win
Just Beer has been named Newark Town Pub Of The Year.
It is the fifth time in six years that the pub, in Swan and Salmon Yard, has won an award from the town branch of Camra (Campaign For Real Ale).
Since it opened 6½ years ago, Just Beer has stocked beer from 1,114 different breweries.
Co-owner Mr Phil Ayling believes the variety had an impact and said he was honoured to win.
“It’s unbelievable to have won our fifth award in six years,” he said.
“We never expected it. You just keep your standards high and hope for the best.
“I think we try to bring new beers to Newark, which is increasingly difficult. If other pubs also start serving it then we try and find something else and the customers appreciate that.
“For us it’s our unique selling point. The longer you go on the more difficult it is to find something completely new but that’s the challenge.
“Of course none of this would be possible without our fantastic and loyal customers. Without them we wouldn’t be here.”
Just Beer is run by friends Mr Ayling, Mr Paul Murphy, Mr Duncan Neil and Mr Stuart Young.
It previously won Newark Camra pub of the year awards last year and in 2014, 2013 and 2012.
Just Beer was Nottingham-shire and East Midlands Pub Of The Year in 2012.
A complimentary buffet was served during the presentation ceremony for the pub’s latest award.
A charity raffle raised £30 for Newark Mind.
Camra has also awarded a Newark District Pub Of The Year award.
The winner was The Final Whistle, Southwell, run by Mr Ollie Brown and Miss Jo Hultum.
