The Old Volunteer gastro-pub at Caythorpe, to donate full weeks' takings and tips to Red Cross Ukraine appeal

A gastro-pub is to donate a full weeks' takings, estimated at £30,000-£40,000, to the Red Cross Ukraine appeal.

Bar and kitchen staff at The Old Volunteer in Caythorpe (Notts) will also be donating their tips to the cause.

Sean Reddington, The Old Volunteer’s landlord, said: “The ongoing situation in Ukraine is deeply unsettling, and as the news rolls in, it’s easy to feel helpless in times like these.

"What’s really special is that it was the team’s idea to volunteer donating their tips too. We all really want to show our support for the people of Ukraine and get our local communities involved by doing what we do best.

"We’re open every day this week and hoping to raise as much money as possible to provide vital aid to those still in and fleeing the country.”

Red Cross Ukraine provides food, first aid, clean water, shelter support, warm clothing, hygiene parcels and medicines to those affected by the Ukraine crisis.

Open seven days a week, the gastro-pub offers a fusion menu, with Asian-inspired dishes served alongside reimagined pub classics like the Sunday roast and fish and chips.

The Old Volunteer’s bar and kitchen staff, led by head chefs Hira Thakur, who appeared on MasterChef: The Professionals in 2020, and Andy Goodbourn, best-known for his award-winning roasts, will also be donating all of their tips throughout the week.
