Card designed by Newark pupil for MP Robert Jenrick delivered to the Prime Minister and King
A Christmas card designed by a Newark school pupil has been delivered to both the Prime Minister and King Charles.
The design was the winner in Newark and Bingham MP Robert Jenrick’s Christmas card competition for constituency primary schools.
There were 500 entries in to the competition this year, the most since Mr Jenrick’s election in 2014.
The design now becomes his official Christmas card and carries his festive wishes to politicians, royalty and nobility. On the Christmas card list were the King and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who is a personal friend of immigration minister Mr Jenrick.
The winning entry of a penguin was by Charlotte Clarke, of the Orchard School in Newark, and the runners-up were Imogen Crosby-Peers, of Orston Primary School, and Sophia Chan, of Archbishop Cranmer Church of England Academy, Aslockton.
Mr Jenrick said: “I was blown away by the quality of the entries this year — more than ever.
“Choosing winners out of the 500 entries was tough, but I’m delighted by the three entries we alighted on, especially our overall winner.
“I have hand-delivered a card to the Prime Minister and rather cheekily put it on his mantelpiece. One was post to His Majesty too.
“The competition is also an enjoyable excuse to visit schools at Christmas time and catch up with headteachers and teachers and thank them for their hard work.
“I was excited to hear of the Newark Orchard School’s expansion and see the works under way. This will further embed the school as the county’s premier special school and is a vote of confidence in Margot Tyers and her team.”
