A team from Claypole Primary School won a county award in an Army-run competition testing mental and physical strength.

The annual Schools Leadership Challenge at the Prince William of Gloucester Barracks, Grantham, raises thousands of pounds for charity, with pupils sponsored to take part.

Claypole entered three teams of eight pupils, aged nine to 11.

In total 114 teams took part with points awarded for understanding the problem, planning, leadership, teamwork and completing the task.

One of the Claypole teams scored 399 points out of 500.

The head, Mrs Heather Burns, said: “We knew they could work well as a team but it was still a pleasant surprise they actually won.”

Lieutenant-colonel Denis Dillon, Commanding Officer of 5 Training Regiment, presented the winning team with their trophy during assembly on Friday.
