A timeline depicting historical events from the age of the dinosaurs to the tsunami disaster in 2004 has been made by pupils at a Balderton primary school.

All 420 children, aged five-11, at Chuter Ede Primary School have been involved in creating 14 canvasses about different events in time. These include Romans, Tudors, Victorians, the Great Fire of London and the first and second world wars.

The timeline will be assembled during the summer holidays and unveiled in September.

Artist Miss Kerry O’Brien worked with the children on the project, helping them to use a variety of mediums including charcoal, needlework and pastels.

Each class created a different period in history, which tied in with their curriculum.

The art co-ordinator at the school, Mrs Hannah Allan, said the timeline would remain in the school and be added to as major events happened. She said it allowed the children to put historical events into chronological order.

Mrs Allan said: “The children have really enjoyed it. They have done lots of homework and planning for their canvasses as well as research in class about the periods of time.”

The school received £2,000-worth of B and Q products in a One Planet Living Awards grant.

It will use the money to renovate part of the garden area to create a pond and wildlife sanctuary.

B and Q will provide materials to help staff and pupils conserve nature and grow their own fruit and vegetables.
