Drone to capture Bingham Slimming World's purple heart made of clothes in support of Cancer Research
A drone will take aerial shots of a huge purple heart made from unwanted clothes as slimming group members look to fundraise for Cancer Research UK.
Slimming World members are currently clearing out their wardrobes for the big event, which will see bags upon bags of donations placed into the shape of a purple heart before being taken to a Cancer Research charity shop.
Slimming consultant Rebecca Butler came up with the idea having lost her mother-in-law suddenly to lung cancer, and she was never able to meet two of her grandchildren.
Slimmers involved in the Bingham Clothes Throw 2022 will head to Bingham Rugby Club on Saturday, May 28, morning to drop off their donations and to form a border around the purple heart before being pictured — and others are being invited to do the same.
Rebecca, who runs five slimming groups in Bingham, said each bag of clothes would be worth around £25 with all the donations going straight to Cancer Research UK.
“As their consultant I am fervently passionate about making this a huge event,” said Rebecca.
“I lost my mother-in-law suddenly to lung cancer three years ago — she never got to meet two of her grandchildren, one of which is her only granddaughter.
“All my members are doing one big drop-off of bright purple, branded bags at my venue of Bingham Rugby Club — we are then going to build a huge purple love heart of the rugby pitch and my members are going to stand and form a border around the heart.
“We will send a drone up in the air for some aerial shots and will then load my van and trailer to deliver the bags to our local Cancer Research UK shop. This will be huge.”
Rebecca is also competing in the Cancer Research UK Pretty Tough Mudder event at Holme Pierrepont in July to raise more funds.
