A tea party in Newark Market Place is among events being planned to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

People are being encouraged to hold events in June and July as part of Marie Curie’s Blooming Great Tea Party.

A former Marie Curie nurse, Miss Ann Akrill, of Trent Lane, South Clifton, is organising the Market Place tea party on July 4.

She said: “Marie Curie nurses are important in helping people stay in their homes to die, if that’s where they want to be.

“More people want to stay at home so we need more money to keep them there.”

Community fundraiser for Nottinghamshire, Mrs Janette Martindale, said they wanted as many people as possible to hold tea parties.

She said: “The wonderful thing about this is that the tea party can be as big or small as people want it to be.

“They can hold something for friends, family, neighbours or at their work place.”
