Visit Nottinghamshire has put plans in place in Newark and Southwell for longer tourist stays

A tourism organisation in Nottinghamshire has launched a new scheme to showcase what the area has to offer.

Visit Nottinghamshire has created a set of itineraries for Newark and Southwell in a bid to attract more tourist to the area.

The itineries are typically two to three days in length and suggest a comprehensive plan for a trip, including activities, attractions, restaurants and accommodation.

The marketing and communications manager at Visit Nottinghamshire, Mr Alex Broughton, said: “Nottinghamshire’s visitor economy is now worth over £1.8bn and is growing year on year, which is unsurprising when you consider the vast amount of diverse and exciting attractions, hotels and food and drink available to visitors.

“So much so that it could be a little overwhelming to research the area online ahead of a visit — and that’s why we’ve created these comprehensive and user-friendly itineraries which encourage them to get out and experience as much as possible, thus boosting our visitor economy.”

There are two-day itineraries recommended for Newark and Southwell.

The Newark itinerary features the National Civil War Centre, the market, Town Hall Museum and Art Gallery, Newark Castle and Gardens, and Newark Air Museum.

In Southwell, there are walks along the River Trent at Fiskerton recommended along with visits to the minster and Archbishop’s Palace, The Workhouse, the swan sanctuary at Reg Taylor’s and Wheelgate Park at Farnsfield.

The two-day Robin Hood itinerary recommends visits to Sherwood Forest and nearby Edwinstowe before going into Nottingham.

Prospective visitors viewing the itineraries on the Visit Nottinghamshire website can choose to ‘add all items to itinerary’ or can edit and personalise it.

The itineraries are intended to encourage visitors to stay longer and encourage them to visit a large number of local attractions and restaurants during their stay.

Visit Britain forecasts that inbound visits to the UK will see a 1.3m increase in 2019 from 2018 and that spending by overseas visitors will increase by £1.8bn.
