A new £1.2m Lincolnshire Co-op food store opened on Friday.

The outlet is on Main Road, Long Bennington, opposite Sparrow Lane and has created 15 jobs.

To celebrate, the store’s first 50 customers received a free bunch of flowers.

The store, which has an ATM, is open 7am to 10pm, seven days a week and stocks a range of groceries, chilled and frozen food, as well as Lincolnshire meat.

Locally-made products in Lincolnshire Co-op’s Love Local range include Springhead beer from Laneham and goods from Gadsby’s Bakery of Southwell.

Extra choice

Long Bennington Village Hall is the store’s first Community Champion and has received an initial donation of £250.

Money is raised for community champions through customers’ dividend card.

Lincolnshire Co-op’s store development manager Mr Matthew Wilkinson said: “We believe our new food store will offer people in Long Bennington an extra choice when it comes to doing their shopping.

“We hope that having a larger store close by with a range of different products may make shopping locally more convenient for residents rather than having to travel to nearby bigger towns.”
