Racecourse family fun day is a winner
A family fun day at Southwell Racecourse on Sunday attracted in the region of 2,000 people.
The racecourse, owned by Arena Company, hosted its first Easter Sunday fun day featuring games, activities, face-painting, a bouncy castle and fairground rides.
Goody bags were handed to the first 400 children on arrival.
Mr Mark Clayton, the racecourse’s executive director, said: “We were very happy with how the day went considering what the forecast predicted but we attracted a good family crowd of around 2,000 people.
“Everyone who came had a good time and there was plenty for the children.
“A lot of people who came to the fun day had not come before and next year we hope to make it bigger and better.”
Tomorrow, the racecourse is hosting Free Friday, which offers free entry if certain conditions are met.
Free Friday is hosted in partnership with the Advertiser and will raise money for the Flower Pod at Nottingham Trent University’s Brackenhurst campus, Southwell.
The project is run by Reach Learning Disability, a charity that supports adults with learning difficulties.
As well as the racecard, the Free Friday event will feature live music from Crimson Six at the end of racing.
