Elton and Orston train station is one of UK's least used train stations according to Office of Rail and Road




With just 164 people using the station last year, Elton and Orston has been listed in the UK’s top ten least used.

According to statistics by the Office of Rail and Road, the station, owned by East Midlands Trains, had just 164 passenger entries and exits in 2018-19.

It has had an average of just 134 users per year over the past nine years.

The lowest number of users were in both 2011-12 and 2012-13 with 72 entries and exits, and the highest in 2015-16 with 296.

Orston parish council chairman Mr Will Gunn said it wasn’t surprising as trains now only stopped there if requested.

He said: “When we were young everyone used it.

“The kids going to school in Grantham would take the train every day and it used to stop in Elton and Orston every hour.

“Nowadays it is slightly more difficult to get to, it’s quite a walk.”

There are 2,566 train stations in the UK.

Newark Northgate is 601st in the list, with 960,922 users entries and exits to the station in the same period.

Newark Castle was ranked 677th busiest, with an estimated 802,590.

The statistics showed Collingham was ranked 1,659th busiest in the country, with 116,434 users.

Elsewhere on the Nottingham-Lincoln line, Lowdham ranked 1,864th with 72,494 users.

On the Skegness line, which includes Elton, Bingham was 1,840th with 77,128 users, and Aslockton was 2,131st and 31,205 users.

The statistics reveal the busiest station was London Waterloo, with 94,192,680 users.
