John Hunt Academy pupils join Wave for Maeve Rainbow Walk in aid of Young Lives vs Cancer, in support of classmate Maeve after cancer diagnosis

Schoolchildren have taken on a rainbow fundraising walk in support of their classmate after her cancer diagnosis.

Maeve Armstrong, 4, of John Hunt Academy, has recently been diagnosed with Acute Lymphblastic Leukaemia.

To show support to Maeve and her family during this difficult time, her fellow pupils at John Hunt Academy and members of the wider school community joined forces for the Wave for Maeve Rainbow Walk.

On Monday, March 10, children and staff all wore bright colours or rainbow colours — Maeve’s favourite colours — and walked past her house to give her a wave, while also raising money for Young Lives vs Cancer.

The youth cancer charity have offered Maeve’s family vital support during this time, and a total of £1,082 was raised by the walk which will help it to continue its work.

Maeve’s mum, Victoria, said: “Thank you so much to everyone who joined in the ‘Wave for Maeve’ walk, both helping raise funds for Young lives Vs Cancer, a charity that has shown us massive support during this challenging time, as well as showing your support of Maeve.

“Seeing all of you come together in your rainbow colours truly made her smile, and she really loved seeing so many of her friends and staff from school. Your kindness and support mean the world to us. We’re beyond grateful.”

The school added: “It was wonderful to see so many children and families supporting Maeve and giving so generously to such an important charity. It was really touching knowing how generous people have been and seeing how our school community can pull together in such a crucial time. We are all very proud to be part of the John Hunt family.”
