Hope Virgo raises funds for Newark's Shaw Mind Foundation through John O’Groats to Land’s End charity ride
An advocate for people with eating disorders is campaigning for the Government to change guidelines about the treatment of sufferers.
Hope Virgo cycled from John O’Groats to Land’s End and raised £2,633 for the Shaw Mind Foundation, whose UK office is in Newark, which supports the mental health of children and young people.
The charity will use the money to deliver mental health talks and workshops to staff and students.
Hope, who wrote a book about her experience of anorexia, has now launched a campaign called Dump The Scales, calling on the Government to review eating disorder guidance delivered by clinicians.
It was prompted by her own experience of being told she was not thin enough for anorexia treatment.
A petition in support of the campaign has more than 66,000 signatures.
Hope is aiming to get cross-party support for an Early Day Motion before Parliament to change understanding about eating disorders.
