A rape victim has been named an ambassador of the charity that helped him after the attack.

Following the sexual assault by two men on a night out in Manchester in September last year, Mr Sam Thompson eventually suffered a breakdown.

Police had concluded that there was insufficient evidence to bring prosecutions and, despite trying to focus on work, the trauma of the incident eventually proved too much.

However, after referring himself to the Survivors Manchester charity – which helps male victims of sexual abuse - he began to talk about his experience and received the support he needed.

He was asked by the charity to become one of its ambassadors, and said he was happy to accept.

“It’s about promoting the work that the charity does,” said Mr Thompson, a DJ who lives in Winthorpe but regularly plays gigs in Manchester.

“There will be times where I give talks about my own experiences, and try to get people to come forward.

“I was asked because they wanted someone who works in the nightlife industry, who is a DJ, who can talk about that world.

“It’s just being able to help other people who have had those sorts of experiences.”

Mr Thompson has also been filming for a Channel 5 documentary about dealing with the aftermath of rape.
