The Bromley at Fiskerton Pub near Southwell, Nottinghamshire re-opens kitchen and welcomes dogs back to the pub for the first time in ten years

Less than a month after taking over the reins at a popular pub, the new landlord has reopened the kitchen after a much-needed makeover.

The Bromley at Fiskerton's kitchen is now back producing high-quality food.

The menu has also had a facelift with a new lunchtime special offering proving to be a hit with patrons.

The previous proprietors announced the shock closure of the pub last month as they plan for retirement.

Within two weeks, the pub was re-opened with a new operator.

The new man at the helm of The Bromley is Damien Bradley, who also operates the Inn On The Green in Coddington.

Damien has worked in hospitality for many years in a variety of different roles.

"When I was 15 I started as a pot washer, then I trained to be a chef," said Damien.

"I was a chef for about seven or eight years, then I was the manager at Inn On The Green for eight years.

"Lockdown came in and I had no employment during that.

"I came back to Inn on the Green as a licensee.

"I've always done hospitality as a job, I still have a passion for it.

"I've been the licensee of the Coddington pub for two and a half years."

"I wanted a sister pub and when this one became available, it was a nice place so I thought I'd go for it."

Upon taking over the premises, it was given a deep clean and initially served only drinks while the kitchen was being worked on.

The kitchen opened back up on Wednesday and the Greene King Pub is due to have more work done in the future.

The pub also has a new facebook page.

"There will be major works done to the pub," said Damien.

"There will be new carpets, the outside will be revamped, and the surfaces will be varnished again.

"It will look even more lovely when it is done.

"The upstairs will be turned into accommodation, it will do the place a world of good.

"The views over the river are stunning.

"We get a lot of boats come and visit."

Taking on a new business venture is a challenge for anyone and Damien said he had to hit the ground running.

"Initially I had a lot of questions," he said.

"The first week of taking this on, I was thinking would we have enough staff, enough chefs?

"It is going good though, we seem to be doing alright.

"I am in it for the long haul.

"We have had good trade for dinner since the kitchen re-opened."

The pub has 1000 reviews with a four-and-a-half out of five average and Damien is determined to continue the good work.

"We have changed things slightly," said Damien.

"We now allow dogs in the bar area, which wasn't done previously.

"That has encouraged people walking past with dogs to come in and enjoy the pub.

"They can't go into the dining area but they are welcome in the bar."

It is the first time in ten years that dogs have been allowed into the pub.

"We are a village pub and we want people to feel welcome," added Damien.

Several staff members have come back from the previous operators including Vicky Pritchard who works in the bar.

"It was a last-minute closure, a lot of people didn't realise that the pub was closing," said Vicky.

"I previously worked at the pub for six and a half years.

"As soon as I heard it was re-opening, I came back."

The kitchen is open Monday to Saturday from 12 to 9pm and on Sunday from 12 to 6pm.
