Newark Parish Church sees return of Music for Market recitals
Newark Parish Church's popular Music for Market recitals began last Saturday (5 June).
This series of classical music concerts will run through the summer, featuring a wide variety of performers. The first concert will be given by a bass trombonist studying at the Royal Academy of Music, Samuel Bullamore Brown, accompanied by Dr Stephen Bullamore, the director of music at the church.
Stephen said: “We have a fantastic series of concerts lined up for Newark.
"After Samuel’s concert, Sliding Around, we have the most wonderful solo cello recital featuring Bach’s cello suites, played by Rebecca Hepplewhite.”
The pandemic forced the cancellation of last year’s concerts.
Audience members this year will be spaced in the generously proportioned church, allowing live concerts to take place safely. Masks will be required to be worn in line with legislation.
The third concert in the series on 19th June acknowledges the 150th birthday of the great composer, Beethoven, which fell last year, with a concert given by Neil Crossland.
“Our last concert of the month will be given by a fantastic local musician, Ben Mills,” noted Stephen: “Ben was successively organ scholar here at St Mary’s and then at Southwell Minster. Since then, he has been studying at Keble College, Oxford and will in the autumn be pursuing a post-graduate performance degree at the Royal Academy of Music.”
Recitals run from 12pm to 12.45pm – ideal for a lunch break.
Admission is free of charge; there is a retiring collection to cover costs.
