Southwell-based Platinum K9 dog training named Exceptional Pet Trainer of the Year at the Business Awards UK
A residential dog training business which has worked with celebrity clients has scooped a national award.
Platinum K9, which offers professional, bespoke, residential dog training, was named winner of the Exceptional Pet Trainer category in the Business Awards UK 2024 Pet and Animal Care Awards.
Established in 2017 by Jon Gardner and Ben Newton, Platinum K9 works with clients up and down the UK and even overseas — with its countryside, two-acre dog training facilities just minutes away from Southwell Town Centre.
Among their clients are several famous faces — including Frankie Bridge from The Saturdays, England Rugby captain Jamie George, and most recently comedian Romesh Ranganathan.
They are experts in aggressive, reactive, obedience and companion dog training — tailored to each dog’s needs — and also provide fully trained family protection dogs.
Ben Newton, Platinum K9 director and business owner, said: “It's brilliant because we have been working a long time towards it, and when we set the business up in 2017 we wanted to strive for excellence. I think it shows that we must give people confidence which is the biggest thing, and all the dogs that come to us, we treat them like our own. We try and treat every single client whether they are a footballer or rugby player or singer, the same way, but it's nice to work with people that you would go and watch at a concert or play at Twickenham.
“Jon and I created the business after we saw a gap in the market for residential training, and we really wanted to create somewhere that felt like a home away from home for the dogs.
“A key strength of ours is the handover carried out between trainers and families at the end of the dog's training. They usually take half a day and are incredibly detailed as we want to make sure owners understand all the training received by their dog as well as how to continue to progress going forward once they take their dog back home.”
Training is delivered by a dedicated team, including head trainer Jon who has over 18,000 documented training hours and began his career as a dog handler and trainer in the armed forces.
They are supported by the kennel team, who ensure the dogs are well cared for during their stay in one of Platinum K9’s 40 individually heated kennels.
