Recycle your Christmas cards and raise money for charity
A waste management firm wants people to recycle used Christmas cards to help raise money for charity.
Blue Castle Energy, of Long Bennington, will donate money to Beaumond House Community Hospice, Newark, and Inspire+, a charity that provides sporting opportunities for children.
It is the second year that Blue Circle has run its campaign.
Last year it collected more than a tonne of cards.
Mr Paul Chandler, of Blue Circle, said: “With our in-house expertise of waste and recycling, we are able to collect recyclable material and, by working with specialist recycling facilities, split Christmas cards into their raw recyclable components. These then have some value.
“It is this rebate for the material that we will pass directly to the two charities.
“Our drivers will come and collect the cards from them in January.”
Collection points were set up in the week up to Christmas. They include the Advertiser offices on Appletongate.
