The chairman of the NHS trust that runs Newark Hospital has accused campaigners of undermining public confidence in the hospital.

Tracy Doucét (pictured) of Sherwood Forest Hospitals Foundation Trust, said the Say YES to Newark Hospital campaign was no longer acting in the best interests of the hospital.

The campaign strongly refutes the accusation.

The health regulator, Monitor, has announced it is to intervene in the running of the trust amid concerns over its finances.

It has asked for representations from the trust by Wednesday, before deciding what action to take.
