Resident of Collingham organises church service to bless a plough
A resident revived a village tradition of having a plough blessed ahead of the new farming year.
Henry Bealby, of Collingham, organised a church service to bless the plough.
Henry’s forebears operated the workshop in the village where ploughs used to be manufactured.
He now uses the premises for brewing.
The plough, made from local materials and over 120 years old, was decorated for the occasion and the blessing was conducted by the Rev Mandy Cartwright, vicar of Collingham, which was witnessed by a gathering of local residents.
The ceremony was followed by a traditional play and folk dancing by Trent Holmes Morris, from Sutton-on-Trent.
