Newark town centre residents evacuated as blaze at old piano school confirmed as arson




Neighbouring properties of a fire in Newark town centre have been evacuated as the blaze has been confirmed as arson.

An Advertiser reporter at the scene has been told the fire is at the old piano school and crews are still fighting to extinguish the fire.

Newark CID are now at the scene, along with multiple fire crews from Newark, Collingham and Southwell.

The ambulance service was at the scene but there are no casualties.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said earlier: "We currently have two fire engines from Newark, one from Collingham and one from Southwell in attendance at a fire on Appletongate, Newark, after receiving a call just after 7.30pm.

"Police and ambulance are also in attendance."
