Residents urged to report bad behaviour

Residents are urged to contact the police if they see anti-social behaviour in Fernwood.

The parish council had been considering asking Newark and Sherwood District Council to help provide CCTV cameras to try to stop problems being caused by youths.

The district council’s community safety co-ordinator, Lisa Lancaster, agreed to see what help could be offered, and attended the parish council meeting on Monday.

She did not think CCTV was the answer.

She said the cameras were expensive and there was unlikely to be any financial help for them from the Government in the future.

She said she had spoken to the police and asked about problems in the village over the past three months, but said their figures had shown that everything was quiet in Fernwood with few reported incidents.

She said the main issue was boy-racers but otherwise very few problems had been brought to the attention of the police.

She said: “I have spoken to the police and they said it was very quiet. The residents I spoke to said it was quiet too.”

She said without figures to back up complaints of problems it was difficult to ask for projects that needed a lot of money to get under way.

The vice-chairman, Mr Jim Weale, thought that problems were not being reported and felt that people should be encouraged to contact the police.

The chairman, Mr Neil Mison, agreed and said they should urge residents to report any problems.

Lisa Lancaster said in the meantime she had asked the district council’s leisure services team if they could provide activities for young people over the half-term and Christmas periods.
