A housing developer is seeking to renew planning permission for 69 homes in Newark.

Lang 003 Ltd wants to build the homes, which would be a mixture of houses and flats, on land by the River Trent off Millgate.

Permission was originally granted on appeal in 2006 but no work has yet been done.

The application to renew the permission went before Newark Town Council planning committee.

Councillors did not object but decided to resubmit comments they made previously raising concerns about flood risk and over-intensive development.

They also requested that 30% of any development should be affordable housing.

Mr Stuart Wallace said: “If the plans are the same as last time then we have little grounds on which to object as they have already been approved.

“We also ought to put in a request that a proportion of the development is affordable housing.”

Mr Laurence Goff said he thought the volume of traffic in the area could be a problem.

The plans say that the development would form a landmark entry into the town and fit into the character of the conservation area.

It would also include parking and landscaping, and would require the demolition of a boat house behind the White House.

In 2006 Millgate Conservation Society and Farndon Residents’ Environment Group were among those that opposed the plans.

They were initially turned down by the Newark and Sherwood District Council planning committee but a planning inspector decided on appeal that they were suitable.

The district council will make the decision on the application.
