ROAD CLOSURE: Beacon Hill Road near A1 closed after damage to gas main

Beacon Hill Road near the A1 is currently closed after a gas main was damaged.

The damage occurred as resurfacing works were taking place on the road overnight.

The leak is now under control and no one has been injured and there should be no properties off gas.

A spokesperson for Cadent, the gas network and emergency service for the East Midlands said its teams had been working though the night to fix the damage but it is thought the works will continue throughout the day.

They said: "This means that although the road was due to reopen at 6am, it will need to stay closed until this work is complete. There is a diversion, but please budget for delays.

"The main thing is clearly that everyone is safe, and we have this under control. Our teams will work as fast as possible, with safety the top priority."
