Roman well sites identified
Eighteen possible sites have been identified to house a rebuilt Roman well in Bingham.
The stone well was discovered near Newton Lane during archaeological investigations for the dualling of the A46.
It was donated to Bingham Heritage Trails Association after chairman Mr Peter Allen wrote to the Highways Agency asking for permission for it to be removed and displayed in the town.
Since then, the association’s committee has been compiling a list of possible sites.
Mr Allen said: “There are two or three that look promising and we are confident we will be able to put the well on one of those.
“We would still be interested in hearing from anyone in Bingham who has any ideas of where they would like to see the well. We want to investigate all the options.”
He said people could send their suggestions to the Old Courthouse, Bingham.
