A46 cattle market roundabout closures at Newark will be lifted for three weeks
Road closures and diversions on the A46 cattle market roundabout at Newark will be lifted for three weeks from tomorrow.
Work began at the end of January on a six-month programme of essential maintenance and safety improvement work on three major A46 Newark roundabouts — the cattle market, Brownhills and the Friendly Farmer.
Work started first on the cattle market roundabout, and will continue with the Friendly Farmer and finally the Brownhills roundabout.
Work on all three is taking place between 8pm and 5am overnight to minimise disruption, but has so far included some closures and diversions.
From tomorrow, there will be no road closures or diversion routes on the cattle market roundabout for about three weeks, but concrete barriers and 40mph speed restrictions will remain in place, to allow work to be carried out safely.
Mr Paul Valentine of nmcm, working on behalf of Highways England, said: “All three of the roundabouts will be getting a facelift and all will be re-surfaced.
“We will be gone by 5am to allow Newark to do its daily work,” he said. “There may be some night work at the weekends as a last resort.”
He said the work had been planned after consultation with businesses, hauliers and venues most likely to be affected.
He said the Friendly Farmer roundabout was the hardest of the three roundabouts to negotiate, and the work would improve this.
“This is the most challenging in terms of accidents because of HGVs versus cars. We will reduce it from four lanes to three to help people get in the right lane,” he said.
