Bingham Rugby Club celebrates 50th anniversary with ball, including special guest Tim Stimpson




Belated 50th anniversary celebrations have taken place for Bingham Rugby Club.

The club was formed in 1971, but had to delay its celebration ball for a year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Under a luxury marquee at their Brendon Grove ground, past and present club members, players and their families gathered to mark the milestone.

More than 200 people attended the anniversary, which was said to be a resounding success.

"We celebrated the event at the club because we believe it was important for us to stay local," said club secretary, Chris Packer.

The night contained an element of nostalgia with the attendance of Bob Williams, the last surviving founding member of the club.

The very first captain of the club attended with his son and daughter-in-law.

Packer said Bob had a nice time and enjoyed meeting everyone at the club.

Tim Stimpson- former Leicester Tigers player, England international and British & Irish Lions representative was the guest speaker.

Stimpson wore a colourful waistcoat representing The Wooden Spoon Society, the children's charity of rugby.

He entertained the crowd with stories of his rugby tours and playing days.

Bingham are now back into their rugby routine, conducting training sessions for the upcoming season.

They will be working at creating another half century of history and replicating past successes on the field in the upcoming years.
