The hugely popular activity class, which has attracted endorsements from high-profile players and celebrities, has spread rapidly over recent years, with more than 4,000 sessions now taking place every week across the UK.

It’s being brought to the area by former Wales international James Ireland, 34, who recently moved to Nottingham with his young family.

James, who also played for Moseley and Newport Gwent Dragons during his career as a scrum-half, said: “Rugbytots is a ‘fun first’ interactive rugby play programme for boys and girls that is perfect for developing important physical and social skills in an exciting, imaginative way.

“The sessions are led by Rugbytots’ engaging, enthusiastic and highly qualified coaches. Based around learning through play, they gently encourage fundamental rugby skills such as throwing, catching, kicking, and running with the ball, as well as helping to build self-confidence through teamwork and togetherness.

“We think Rugbytots is a truly distinctive experience for parents and children alike. Our motto is simple: ‘make it more fun’.”

James will be responsible for selecting and training each of the coaches in Newark.

Rugbytots sessions for two to five-year-olds are starting at Magnus Community Sports Centre, Bowbridge Road, on Saturday mornings from October 20 and are available to book now via www.rugbytots.co.uk

Free taster sessions are also taking place on Saturday October 13 between 9am and 11.05am – email nottingham@rugbytots.co.uk or call 0345 3130806 to reserve a place.

More information on the sessions can also be found at www.rugbytots.co.uk.

A set of six costs £45.75, including a 75p booking fee, which works out to £7.50 per class. They are 30 minutes long for two to three-and-a-half year olds, and 45 minutes from three-and-a-half to five.
