North Muskham resident launches charity run campaign in memory of former Newark Advertiser reporter Warwick Lane

Volunteers and sponsors are needed for a run that will be held in memory of Advertiser sports and news reporter Warwick Lane.

The event, Rick’s Run, will be held on March 24 and is being organised by family friend Sandra Neil, of North Muskham.

“I need lots of volunteers and if possible a company to sponsor t-shirts for this event,” she said.

Money raised will go to the Anthony Nolan Trust and the Teenage Cancer Trust — both charities that Warwick was supporting.

Warwick died in August last year after a brave fight against leukaemia.

Before he died he was raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. He had also launched a campaign to increase the number of potential donors on the Anthony Nolan Trust register, a blood donation charity that accepts healthy people aged 16 to 30.

A concert by The Choir With No Name, which meets at the Tozer Dance Studio at Hockerwood Park, Upton, has raised more than £1,400 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

They normally perform twice a year in aid of a named charity and decided that their November concert should be for the Teenage Cancer Trust in memory of Warwick.

Mrs Gill Kent and Mrs Karen Rayner, who are both members of the choir, have known Warwick and his family for many years and taught him at Muskham Primary School.

“Warwick touched so many people’s lives, young and old, and even in failing health he was keen to help other people,” said Mrs Kent.

The concert was held at The HopBarn, Hockerwood Lane, Southwell, and attracted 80 people.
