Reader's letter: Safety concerns

I was astounded to read in last week’s Advertiser that the dangerous broadband boxes at the junction of Hawton Road and Grange Road, Newark, are being allowed to stay (Broadband Boxes To Stay At Junction, Advertiser, March 23).

Did any of the members of Newark and Sherwood District Council’s planning committee actually bother to visit the junction and see for themselves how difficult it is for motorists to get out of that junction?

I strongly suspect not.

Bob Crowe seems to have entirely missed the point of the application when he suggested the broadband boxes and monopole were a good thing because most people would welcome better mobile phone service.

I am sure that is the case — if the boxes and pole were put in the correct position and not blocking the view coming out of the junction.

The application was before the committee not to ask for permission for the boxes, but to ask to keep them where they are because they were incorrectly sited (and therefore dangerous) when installed.

Given the choice, I for one, prefer road safety over mobile phone coverage. — A. CHAMBERS, Newark.
