Gas Direct supplies gases for various applications from its state-of-the-art filling plant on Valley Lane, where there is a workforce of about 50.

General manager Lucy Evans said the nature of the business meant safety was vitally important.

“The scheme is to recognise the work of our staff in maintaining a good safety record and having no accidents,” she said.

This year employees chose to divide the £2,238 raised equally between two Newark-based charities — Beaumond House Hospice Care and the Children’s Bereavement Centre.

“It is nice to be able to support local charities, especially in a year that has been very hard for them,” Lucy said.
