Sainsbury's, which has a store in Balderton, to cut 3,500 jobs with closure of 420 Argos outlets, one of which is on Stodman Street, Newark
Sainsbury's, which has a Balderton store, is to cut 3,500 jobs with the closure of 420 Argos outlets, one of which is on Stodman Street, Newark.
The major supermarket is also to cut all of its meat, fish and deli counters as part of the restructuring.
The 420 standalone Argos stores will close by March 2024. Sainsbury's said it would open 150 Argos outlets in its supermarkets.
It comes on the day Newark and Sherwood and England alike enter a second lockdown and as major brand names react to changing consumer habits and a surge in online shopping, since the coronavirus pandemic began.
Boss Simon Roberts said the food counter closures was in response to lower customer demand and desire to reduce food waste.
The supermarket has also revealed a £137m loss, blaming it on closures and changes in the market.
