Closure of Beehive Unisex Salon on Main Street, Balderton, after 26 years marks start of new chapter at Beehive Newstyle, London Road

The doors of one salon have closed for the final time – as a new era begins with a hairdressing team coming together under one roof.

After 26 years in business, salon owner Sue Peck has made the “extremely big decision” to close Beehive Unisex Salon, Main Street, Balderton, today (March 2) — and now she marks a new beginning with a “wealth of experience” under one roof at Beehive Newstyle, on London Road.

Sue started working for herself in 1985 as a mobile hairstylist and, after 13 years, opened the salon on Main Street in 1998, followed by Beehive Newstyle in 2002.

Parking issues and rising costs had prompted the closure, which also coincided with the retirement of Anita Newport – who worked at Main Street for more than 20 years. As a result Sue felt it was best to bring her team together at one site.

Sue said: “We’ve all worked with each other before, and it is nice to have the team of hairdressers under one roof.”

Experienced hairdresser Emma Stevenson, who has managed the Main Street site for many years, will join Sue, Lisa Stevenson and Debbie Guthrie at Newstyle.

Both Emma and Debbie are marking 26 years at Beehive, while Lisa has been at the salon for 13 years.

Sue added: “It’s quite the achievement to stay somewhere for so long. I have a trustworthy and loyal team, they are very valued.”

The team will be at Beehive NewStyle, on London Road.

She will be marking 40 years in business next year, and paid tribute to her “long standing , experienced staff and the loyal clients for their custom” for supporting the salons to be successful businesses – vowing they will continue their work under one salon.

Debbie described the salon as “a really good place to be”, and Emma added that she was looking forward to the move, despite joking that she would feel like the new girl after 26 years.

She added: “Sue’s been a good boss, she’s been brilliant to let me come back to work and work what hours I want after my maternity leave.

“I’ve got some lovely clients, they really keep you going, and they are all making the move with me.

“It’s a really happy place to work.”
