Fiskerton couple take on coast to coast challenge and scale Himalayas peaks for the Stroke Assosciation

A couple are taking on a series of challenges for charity — including a trek to the Everest base camp.

Fiskerton residents Vicky and Kevin Osbon are fundraising for the Stroke Association in memory of Vicky's Mum Mary Slaughter, who when fit and well died suddenly of a stroke.

Her death left the family devastated with the loss of such a fantastic, fun and vibrant lady and Mum.

Vicky, who lost her Dad some years before, never got over the feeling of not being able to say goodbye to her Mum and tell her how much she loved her says the sudden loss has made her feel like an orphan.

In memory of her Mum, Vicky, 58, is taking on a massive challenge — climbing two mountains over 6000 metres high the Himalayas, Nepal, as well as walking 190 miles coast to coast as part of her training.

The duo have so far raised nearly £2,000 of their £5,000 target. Donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/kevin-osbon.

She will be accompanied throughout by her experienced mountaineer husband Kevin.

The highest that Vicky has ever trekked is Mount Snowden at 1085m, so climbing Mount Lobuche at 6,119 metres high and Island Peak at 6,189 metres in the Himalayas in Nepal high is a major undertaking at nearly six times the height.

Vicky and Kevin set off walking the 190 mile Wainwright Coast to Coast trail on Tuesday, May 2, from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire.

In October and November, Vicky and Kevin will attempt to climb to Everest Base camp at 5,364m, Kala Patthar at 5,645m, Lobuche at 6,119m and Island Peak at 6,189m.

All of the costs of the venture will be met by the Osbon family and every penny raised will go to the Stroke Association in memory of Vicky's Mum Mary.

The Stroke Association deliver life-changing support to over 70,000 stroke survivors and their families each year.

Without people raising funds for the Stroke Association they could not provide the support and research that they do.

Just before they set off on their trek, the Osbon’s training companion and much-loved labradoodle Hugo died, and so the challenges will also be in his memory.
