The Suther's School bake sale raises more than for The Newark Emmaus Trust and The Alzheimer's Society
A bake scale organised by the school's charity team SAVE has raised more than for two worthy causes.
On Friday, April 29, members of SAVE organised a charity bake sale, which took place over the break and lunch periods.
The total amount raised will be split between The Newark Emmaus Trust and The Alzheimer's Society.
Georgia Baker-Stimson, a pupil and charity representative for SAVE, has been involved in the group since joining the school in Year 7.
She said: "We are doing a bake sale for The Newark Emmaus Trust which helps homeless people in Newark, and its mainly youths so we know some of our peers that have been helped by the charity and it helps people in our community."
The charity bake sale will has also raised money for The Alzheimer's Society, which supports people with dementia and their families.
Izzy Wagstaff added: "It helps people with dementia, even £2 could help them to fund someone to talk to and support someone."
Members of the school community brought in sweet treats for the bake sale, even those not in SAVE, and Georgia says it has been great to get so many people involved.
Back in 2018 the group did a similar event for The Newark Emmaus Trust, but instead of selling cakes for money they instead asked for donations of items that a homeless person could use.
Georgia also took part in this event, she said: "Four years later we are still doing this as it is still important and we are inspiring a younger generation to help us, and when I leave next year, they will carry it on."
SAVE has already organised a number of events this school year, but have more planned for later this year.
