Newark Orchard School staff take on 24 hour walking challenge raising money for outdoor learning space

A school’s staff will be taking on a walking challenge to raise money for an outdoor learning space.

Staff from Newark Orchard School will be completing the Lyke Wake walk in the North York Moors, starting on June 17.

The Lyke Wake challenge is to complete the route of 40 miles, from Osmotherly to Ravenscar on the coast, non-stop in under 24 hours. The team plan to walk overnight on Friday, watch the sun come up Saturday morning, and reach the coast by Saturday teatime.

They will have a support team who will meet them at several points in the school minibus to offer snacks, cups of tea and fresh socks.

They aim to raise £2,000 to build a dedicated outdoor learning space, as students at the school enjoy learning outside in nature.

Donations can be made on the team’s JustGiving page at shorturl.at/mCFTV

An all-weather structure would allow more activities outside, no matter the weather. In previous years staff have fundraised for defibrillators and a sensory garden.
