Schools across the Newark area celebrate Comic Relief with a number of activities
Youngsters across the district have been getting ‘funny for money’ to raise funds for this year’s Comic Relief appeal.
This year marks 40 years of the national fundraising appeal, with the full TV live show starting tonight at 7pm on BBC1.
Last year’s appeal saw more than £40,000,000 raised, and this year’s celebrity challenge is seeing Radio 1 presenter Jamie Laing running five ultramarathons in five days from London to Salford, finishing tonight.
Here in Newark and the surrounding areas, businesses and schools were donning their red noses and doing their bit to raise money for the appeal.
Pupils and staff at Winthorpe primary school were donating money to wear red clothing and don crazy hairstyles, while Highfields School hosted a cake sale and the pupils held a jokeathon to raise money.
Coddington primary school pupils had a great time having a ‘break the rules’ day, where for the day the children were allowed to wear temporary tattoos, go for a crazy hairstyle, bring a toy in from home, and more.
Over at John Hunt Academy, pupils held a non-uniform day and made a red nose out of pennies, while pupils at Chuter Ede’s Balderton and Fernwood sites were enjoying Red Nose Day activities.
