All Souls Day Ceremony to take place at Newark Cemetery to thank Polish Servicemen who fought for their country




A ceremony of homage and remembrance to the sacrifices of Polish Servicemen will take place this Sunday (October 27).

The All Souls Day Ceremony of Homage and Remembrance will be at the Commonwealth War Graves Section of the Newark Cemetery.

The service will remember and honour the sacrifices of Polish Servicemen, who fought for their country and the free world during the second world war and never returned home.

More than 400 Polish airmen and paratroopers who died during the war are buried in Newark Cemetery.

Guests should use the Thoresby Avenue entrance (NG24 4DJ) where they will be directed to park their car.

The Procession of the Collegiate Body, led by the Standards, will move off from the Thoresby Avenue entrance at 3pm, however, guests are asked to be in place by 2.45pm.

The Ceremony will be attended by Sir Andrew Pulford, Representing the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, consul general of the Republic of Poland in Manchester, Ireneusz Truszkowski; the mayor of Newark Diane Ledger and the vice-chairman of Newark and Sherwood District Council Linda Tift, together with other Civic dignitaries and invited guests.

Members of the public who want to participate in a ceremony of remembrance and reflection are welcome to attend.

The Ceremony normally lasts an hour and people attending are advised to wear warm clothing and footwear.
