Newark dessert business MiniBakes opens Cheesecake Shed in Middlebeck

A dessert maker is set offer up a new summertime sweet treat — from a shed at her home.

For almost five years Olivia Kunge has been cooking up a sweet storm for her business MiniBakes.

She has transformed her hobby into something more, running the small cheesecake business from her Middlebeck home on weekends, alongside her full-time job.

“Next month is five years of running MiniBakes,” Olivia said.

“It’s a hobby that I wanted to share with people. Usually it’s cakes and cupcakes which people make, so I wanted to do something a bit different that other people didn’t do.”

Now, she’s come up with a new idea to give people a fix of cheesecake goodness while out and about in the summer months.

The MiniBakes Cheesecake Shed will open on Crocus Close for the first time tomorrow (April 26), stocking Olivia’s cheesecake cups.

She said: “We just came up with the idea because it’s getting very popular with the customers, and we wanted to see how a cake box might work with cheesecakes. So far we’ve got quite a lot of interest.

“It will have an insulated box and ice packs to keep the cheesecakes cool, and we’ve chosen a light colour for the outside of the box to help in the sun.

“I’ve done research on cake sheds and people are being honest, so I hope they will be honest for me too.”

It will open each Saturday and work on an first come first served honesty basis, although it is monitored by cameras, and will accept cash and card payments.

Each week the flavour offered will be different, and Olivia is also encouraging people to share any new flavours they’d like to try.

“We’re always asking customers what they’d like to see,” she added.

“We want to explore with the cheesecake shed and the cheesecake cups, so people can feel part of it as well.”

MiniBakes made to order service will also continue as normal, which offers a range of mini cupcake-sized cheesecakes, half-and-half full size cheesecakes and more, in flavours including white chocolate pistachio, Oreo, Lotus Biscoff, Kinder Bueno, and fruit flavours, among others.
