Sherwood MP Mark Spencer expresses delight at new cabinet role

Sherwood MP Mark Spencer said he is delighted with the new role in the Cabinet handed him by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Mr Spencer will leave his job as Chief Whip to take on the position of Leader of the House of Commons, formerly held by Jacob Rees-Mogg.

He said: “I am delighted to have been appointed Lord President of the Council, and Leader of the House of Commons in Her Majesty’s Government.

“I look forward to championing Parliament, the role of the House of Commons, and its members on the floor of the House.

“Most importantly, I will continue to support and stand up for Sherwood at every step along the way.

“It is a particular privilege to serve as Lord President of the Council in Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Year. I am extremely grateful for her lifetime of service, and it is humbling to be able to serve as Lord President of Her Privy Council.”

Mr Johnson announced he would be making some small changes to the way No 10 Downing Street is run, following a string of recent controversies.

As part of the reshuffle, Mr Rees-Mogg has been moved to become the minster for Brexit opportunities and government efficiencies.
