Flossie & Boo in Newark Market Place's grand reopening event success after the shop's original frontage was restored thanks to funding from Historic England secured by Newark and Sherwood District Council

Over 100 people attended a shop’s grand reopening after five months of work to give its frontage a 1920s look.

Flossie & Boo at 19 Market Place held its reopening event last Saturday, September 30.

The shop closed in April to have its frontage refurbished to bring it closer to its original design back in the 1920s.

“It was mind-blowing, the shop was packed the whole time, and I didn't even have time to go for lunch,” said the shop owner Carly Carpenter.

“It was an incredible day of sales and so many people went there just to wish me well and congratulate me on the shop.”

The work was enabled thanks to a share of the £275,000 through Historic England’s High Streets Heritage Action Zone scheme, which promotes the vitality of town centres by protecting, enhancing and celebrating heritage.

The project was funded through this investment with contributions from the district council and building owners.

Other shopfronts benefit too.

The independent family-dedicated business offers a variety of baby and children’s clothing, toys and gifts.

Some of the shop's new brands on display include designers such as Ted Baker and Ralph Lauren.

Carly added: “It was an overwhelming day, it was amazing to be back in the shop and welcome everyone.

“I couldn’t have expected any better.”

The shop is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 3pm.
