POLL: Should the dualling of the A46 Newark bypass be a national priority?

An MP says it is “make or break” time for the dualling of the A46 from Farndon to Winthorpe.

For that reason Robert Jenrick, MP for Newark and Bingham, has launched a petition that will be presented to the new Prime Minister — whoever that may be — aimed at driving through the A46 dualling and beating the gridlock around Newark once and for all.

Mr Jenrick’s joint campaign with the Advertiser seeks for as many people as possible to petition for the scheme to go-ahead.

Mr Jenrick described the project as vital — not just for Newark, but Nottinghamshire, the East Midlands and the north, that the scheme did not stall.

Currently, if funding was agreed, it would be for the period 2020 to 2025, with work starting between 2022 and 2024.

The cost of delivery has spiralled from £200m to a current costing of £415m.
