Newark & Nottinghamshire County Show on May 14 and 15 is said to be the perfect combination of a traditional agricultural show and modern-day family entertainment.

From farming’s heritage and livestock to breath-taking arena displays and hands-on workshops, there really is something for everyone.

In the Main Arena two full days of entertainment include the awe-inspiring Xtreme Trials Display Team performin motorcycle stunts.

The team, which includes multi-British and International Champions Martin Crosswaite and Dan Clark, will put on a display of gravity-defying riding over fearsome-looking obstacles.

Back for the third time will be the very popular Mounted Games where young riders gallop flat-out on agile ponies in a Nations Cup team style competition, urged on by the crowd who will be encouraging their favourite nation.

Younger members of the family can enjoy the Youth Zone and ‘Go Photography’ where creativity is encouraged and the only limit is their imagination.

Being a family show, Newark welcomes dogs too and there is the chance for a canine pet to could have a go at dog agility or watch and learn from the sheepdog demonstration.

There will be steam engines, military vehicles, and classic cars.

More machinery will be on display in the Farming Heritage area, including vintage tractors, and there is an antiques village.

There will be chainsaw demonstrations in the Forestry Area, with tree carvings, and the ancient art of hedge-laying.

Alongside the forestry, there will be working horses where the gentle giants of the equine world will demonstrate log pulling, harrowing and seeding.

Among the many and varied trade stands, food lovers will really enjoy the Food Hall, under cover in its own marquee which will be located by the Countryside Area.

TV chef Richard Fox will be giving cookery demonstrations over in the nearby George Stephenson Exhibition Hall where children will be able to join in the adjacent cookery school.

Agriculture is at the heart of every Newark & Nottinghamshire County Show with the livestock area where there will be a host of native breeds of cattle, sheep and pigs – such as Red Poll, Highland, Jacob, Lincoln Longwool, British Saddle Back and Gloucestershire Old Spot.

Horses are very much part of the scene at Newark, with seven dedicated showing rings and two days of uninterrupted show jumping in the Newark Ring.

From Shetlands and elegant show ponies to private driving and the mighty Shire, equines of all shapes and sizes will be trying to catch the judges’ eye and win a coveted red rosette.

There will be a sheep show, Cyril the Squirrel’s Terrier Racing, a falconry display and fun fair and tug-of-war.

Children under the age of 17 are admitted free with an adult. There is free parking and free grandstand seating.
