Crossing Cottage Greyhound Sanctuary, Sutton on Trent, to hold dog show for retired racing greyhounds
A charity dedicated to finding retired racing greyhounds their forever homes is holding a dog show for the long-legged companions.
Crossing Cottage Greyhound Sanctuary, in Sutton-on-Trent, is set to hold the show on Sunday, September 1, from 11.30am to mid afternoon.
There will be 11 categories for greyhounds to take part in.
Kennel manager Karen Turner-Nash said: “It is specifically for greyhounds, most of which we will have re-homed from Crossing Cottage, but others are welcome too.
“The classes will includes best boy, best girl, all the usual greyhound show categories.”
As well as those who’ve already welcomed a greyhound into their family, prospective adopters are also invited to come along and meet the dogs currently at the sanctuary and help walk them prior to the event.
There are currently around 30 of the sighthounds in Crossing Cottage’s care.
Karen added: “They are extremely loving, and extremely good with people. Lots of people think they need a lot of exercise, but they’re sprinters not marathon runners.
“They really all do deserve loving homes, they’re often overlooked.”
Nottingham-based brewery Lenton Lane will also be at the event with a stall, with their beer brewed in support of the re-homing charity, lovingly coined ‘Noodle Pony’.
