Carer support groups to host Ferwood Carers’ Marketplace in village hall, showcasing support from agencies including Nottinghamshire Parent Carer Forum, Newark Dementia support group and Beaumond House
A marketplace has been set up to help unpaid carers of adults and children find out more about the support available to them.
Cheryl Wilding and Colette Gough of Still Smiling, a parent support group for those caring for additional needs, and Carol Gorman, who runs a carer's support group for those caring for adults, have joined forces to host the free event at Fernwood Village Hall this Saturday (October 14).
It will run from 2pm to 4pm and refreshments will be available.
Cheryl said: “Both groups have struggled to find good ways to meet people who might benefit from our support groups, so we came up with the idea of holding a Carers' Marketplace so that people could come a meet a variety of agencies that could support them.”
Nine agencies, including the two host groups, Nottinghamshire Parent Carer Forum, Newark Dementia support group and Beaumond House, have stands at the marketplace.
“It’s important for carers to know they are not alone and that there’s others in the same boat as them,” Cheryl added.
“It is an opportunity for people to see what agencies can help them, and to know that we are here for them.”
It is hoped that the marketplace will become a regular event to support carers in the area.
