Showpiece office stolen from site
Police are appealing for information after a portable office building and trailer worth about £15,000 were stolen from a Newark business.
The managing director of Newark Glass, Mr David Mason, said staff locked the premises on Brunel Drive at about 5.30pm on Thursday, July 9. They returned at 8pm to find the gate had been forced open.
They looked around the yard but the portable office building and the Ifor Williams trailer on which it was mounted, had gone.
Mr Mason said the office building, designed for use in people’s gardens, was unique.
The office building, which was built for marketing purposes, was recently displayed at Lincolnshire Show.
He said the building could be seen through the fence, and several people had come to look at it over the past two weeks.
He thought it had been deliberately targeted as other items in the yard were not taken.
The building has a timber frame. Half is clad in cedar and half in uPVC.
It is fully insulated for year-round use, and contained a desk, two chairs and a filing cabinet.
Mr Mason said buildings like it were becoming more popular as more people chose to work from home.
He said it would have taken three or four people to push the trailer. Mr Mason said it would then have been quite easy for it to be towed away using a vehicle.
The building is six metres by 31/2 metres and Mr Mason said he was sure people would have seen it being towed.
“I was not very happy when I discovered it had been stolen,” he said. “We put a lot of effort into designing and building it. It was obviously going to prove very popular.”
Mr Mason said it would take about six weeks to build a replacement.
He said they were still waiting to hear from their insurers, but hoped the building was covered.
