Siege token a success

It is hoped more businesses will join a discount parking scheme in the run-up to its first anniversary.

The Newark Siege Token Campaign was launched last June to entice people to shop in Newark.

Parking tickets have a tear-off strip to redeem £1.50 when spending £15 in participating shops.

A total of 72 businesses have signed up to the scheme started by Newark Business Club in partnership with Newark and Sherwood District Council.

The chairman of the business club, Mr Dean Hyde, said it proved more successful than anticipated, and businesses were still reporting shoppers exchanging siege tokens.

He said the club was teaming up with the ORCA Local Newark website, which offers shoppers discounts to local businesses and retailers, to promote the scheme and encourage more businesses to join.
