Newark-born country singer's new single a chart-topping success with duet by The Voice star
A singer-songwriters' newly-released single soared to the top of the charts on its release.
Newark-born country singer Nicola Harris’ single You, released earlier this month, reached number one on the UK country chart and 38 on the overall iTunes chart.
Written following an argument with her husband, You explores fraught moments in relationships and unspoken fears of marriages falling apart — a message Nicola said has touched many hearts.
She said: “I went upstairs with my pen and paper and wrote the song.
“I’ve had so many people relate to it, and say I’ve said everything they are feeling.
“I want people to be able to play this to their partner to say, ‘this is how I feel’.”
The single is a duet with The Voice star Preston D Barnes, and is a back and forth between a man and woman each declaring their fears and desire for one another and is produced by Tim Prottey-Jones.
You also marks a move away from pure country for Nicola, and incorporates rock to form a power ballad — something her duet partner brought to the studio.
“I wanted someone with the rock aspect and I asked Tim Prottey-Jones. He said he’d just met someone,” she added.
“His voice is perfect.”
The single can be streamed online on iTunes, Amazon Music and Spotify.
Nicola also recently attended the British Country Music Association Awards, and hopes her single will earn her a nomination next year.
She added: “My next single is about Newark. I am proud of my hometown and I want people to know where I’m from.
“In interviews I always say I’m from Newark, Nottinghamshire and I have filmed music videos here.”
Nicola has also been featured on the BBC introducing stage, performed at The Long Road country festival and presents My Kind Of Country on Apple Radio.
