Sixth arrest in murder inquiry

A sixth person has been arrested in connection with the death of a man in Newark.

The 18-year-old man is in police custody and will be questioned by detectives today (Sunday September 2 2012.

More time has been granted to further question three men, one aged 27 and two aged 18, and two teenage boys, aged 16 and 17, who were arrested following the discovery of the man’s body on a path in Beacon Hill Conservation Park, in Beacon Hill Road.

The alarm was raised after a birthday party turned into an altercation at around 10.40pm on Friday 31 August 2012.

The victim, who has yet to be formally identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Home Office Post-Mortem examination conducted last night found that he died of a stab wound.

A murder inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death continues.

A team of detectives are conducting extensive enquiries in the area, including speaking to a number of witnesses and checking CCTV footage.

A cordon remains in place at the scene and the park is expected to be closed for the rest of the weekend while forensic examination continues.
