Skate park to get revamp
A run-down village skate park is set to be refurbished partly thanks to a £70,000 grant.
The money, from WREN’s FCC Com-munity Action Fund, will pay for new facilities at Collingham’s Community Park on Swinderby Road suitable for skateboarders and BMX riders.
The plans for the project, by Freestyle Skateparks, include a jump box, a rolled transition and a transition extension.
Jane Guest, chairman of Collingham skate park advisory group, said the new facility would make a huge difference.
“This project will provide a real boost to the people of Collingham,” she said.
“It is fantastic that WREN has awarded this money and we are looking forward to our new skate park taking shape over the next few months.
“WREN has been supportive of all the improvements the parish council has proposed in recent years and this grant for the skate park will complement the grant received in 2015 for the refurbishment of the community park.
“We must have one of the healthiest and happiest communities in the area, with the wide range of facilities on offer for all ages.”
WREN is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, biodiversity and heritage projects from funds donated by FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities Fund.
Cheryl Raynor, WREN’s local grant manager, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Collingham skate park project and pleased that our funding will provide such a fantastic facility for young people.
“WREN is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that make a difference to communities and we are looking forward to seeing this one take shape.”
Collingham Parish Council is also contributing £40,000 towards the project.
It is hoped the new skate park will be ready by late October.
